Learning By Doing

In much the same way that computers changed what and how students learn, today’s desktop 3D printing is changing the study of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Desktop 3D printing is the process of producing a three dimensional solid object in almost any shape.Using computer-aided design (CAD) and other software or app, students can imagine a shape, design it, and create it. It is the embodiment of hands-on, project-
based learning. Sylvia Martinez, co-author of “Invent to Learn,” sees the promise of this technology. She says it “… overlaps with the natural inclinations of children and the power of learning by doing.”
