Maison Henri Deschamps to Build a State-of-the-Art Tier III Data Center in Haiti with Cisco Technology

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – Feb. 25, 2011 – Maison Henri Deschamps (RETEL), the leading publishing company for the education sector in Haiti, announces the launching of its new information technology division, (RETEL), to build a state-of-the-art data center in the nation’s capital, Port-au-Prince. In addition to serving Deschamps’ enterprise needs, the facility will be the backbone of a vision that started close to 113 years ago, when the company was founded:  to transform Haiti through the power of education. The data center will be one of the pillars of the Deschamps strategy as the company builds an e-learning project to digitize its vast educational content and provide the flexibility to deliver it to students in various digital forms. As Haiti bravely recovers from the terrible earthquake that devastated the country early in 2010, Maison Henri Deschamps continues to believe in education as a transformational tool in helping young Haitians to improve their lives and as a way to attract foreign investment to fuel the national economic recovery.

The data center will be built on Cisco technologies. With the Cisco Unified Computing System™, Deschamps is maximizing the power of virtualization by uniting its server, network, storage and virtualization capabilities into one energy-efficient system that significantly reduces the cost and complexity of its IT infrastructure. While building its own IT expertise, Deschamps is also forming a strategic alliance with a leading technology integrator, the Miami-based UDT. UDT, recently named one of America’s fastest-growing private companies by Inc. magazine, combines technology expertise on data center architecture technologies with in-depth experience in several industries, including a strong focus on education. These factors enable Deschamps’ IT division, RETEL, to extend its data center facility and services to local and international companies established in Haiti and other parts of the region. These customers will be able to have access to this state-of-the-art, fully protected facility and data center services such as co-location, business continuity and disaster recovery plans and infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS).

Always aligned to its motto “Working for the Improvement of the Quality of Education in Haiti,” Maison Henri Deschamps continues to look ahead, investing in Haiti’s economic growth and educational development.
